Well, I had my first studio session of 2021 and I have to say it felt pretty great. I received a very generous gift from a close friend for Christmas in the form of a couple of nice studio lights. Needless to say I was incredibly grateful and excited to test them out. It’s been years since I’ve used much of anything except natural light and I forgot how fun it can be to have ultimately control over a lighting situation. It truly can feel a little bit like painting with light. Manipulating the shadows, bouncing the light off of different surfaces, just looking at the way the illumination hugs the body.
I’m fortunate to live in a space that is easy to re-arrange into a bit of a makeshift studio. This image was just right up against a wall in my living room. I didn’t have a lot of real estate to pull the camera back with, but I think some tight and close-up compositions can be nice for a change.
