I don’t think I’ve ever made a secret of the fact that I do prefer working outdoors. For me, that is one of my primary motivators around photography in general. It’s an excuse to shed off my tendency to hibernate and shun the world and instead put down all the electronic screens and get out into the fresh air. You know, that little thing we call living!
Every once in a while I will do some work in a studio. Typically when the weather is really bad. Even further down the rabbit hole, every once in a while I will make an image in the studio that I really love.
I was working in a dusty studio location when I made this image that was primarily being used as a space for painting classes. I actually found this old television up on the roof of the building and dragged it downstairs thinking it would make a pretty cool prop. The scene was lit only with one single 500w flood lamp which I think was rather appropriate for the space. I sometimes like the heavy shadows one gets with flood lights. Plus I’m cheap, and I don’t have a whole lot of fancy studio lighting at my disposal.
