I went out with one of my favorite people to work with Floofie a few weeks back at a ridiculous morning hour. The lighting was fantastic. So fantastic in fact that I had one of those moments where I didn’t quite know what to do with the camera. I think anyone who does any sort of creative exercise can relate to that statement a little bit. The creative sparks start flying in your brain so fast that you just sort of short circuit and all the technical things you know about your craft go out the window.
I made this image using Kodak Ektar color negative film. I’ve long been a fan of Kodak Ektar though I realize that it is sometimes not the best stock when trying to get natural looking skin tones. Kodak Ektar tends to lean toward red tones which can make people look like they have a sunburn in very bright light. At 6am however the light was subdued enough to avoid this particular quality in the film. Instead what I am left with in this case is a nice color pallet that looks like some lovely water colors.
Total side note: I’ve always wanted to learn how to paint with water colors. Maybe someday…
