So Little Black

I was talking the other day about how much I love deep blacks in a photograph. Then strangely enough, the very next roll of film I develop has next to no deep blacks at all, just a lot of dark grays. Figures...

I shouldn't be surprised considering the soft overcast window light I had to work with on this particular day. I had to push my film all the way to ISO 1600 and even then I was shooting at a really low shutter speed. It's rather remarkable the photograph didn't end up with grain the size of golf balls and retained an overall pleasant look in the skin tones.

I do a lot of traveling to small towns and a common thread I see across the United States is boarded up movie theaters along the main strip. It makes me quite sad. So many of these theaters could be community gathering places. Get people out of the h
