It is a regular thing for me to grab a roll of high ISO film and head out on the town snapping pictures after dark. The glow of a city in monochrome is rather breathtaking at times. The overall look can often even seem lonely at times, despite the fact that there is an active night life all around me and I am hardly the only one standing on any given street corner. I'm just probably the only one with with a camera.
I don't publish this work very often even though I have hundreds of rolls I've run through the camera doing it. For me it is more of a creative exercise. That being said, I've been watching some turn of the century cinema lately which has left me feeling inspired to share some night cityscapes. The roll of black and white film in this image was being pushed to ISO 1600 and stand developed in Rodinal. The halo effect around the neon letters is very strong as a result, which is an effect I like for images made after dark.
