Several months back I went to the Oregon Dunes for a photoshoot and I’m not going to deny I’ve been dreaming of going back ever since. Usually it is the forests and the oceans that I tend to crave for the purposes of photography and I never thought I would find a desert to be so mystical and alluring.
Well ok, to be fair, the Oregon Dunes are a bit of a strange beast. Just beyond the rolling dunes that visually seem to go on forever one finds themselves smack dab at the shore of the Pacific Ocean. So in some ways the Oregon Dunes are a bit more like the Pacific Northwest version of a desert and a lot less like the Arizona version of a desert. But still, the common denominator here is a whole lot of sand and a whole lot of sun being reflected at any given scene from every conceivable direction. This quality alone made photographing there quite a challenge and I’d like to go back a little more prepared with some lens hoods, the right filters, and of course slower speed film.
As soon as I get a little bit of time off from work I plan on making it happen.
