The last few weeks I’ve been really bogged down with the day job which always leaves me feeling a bit restless and frustrated. On any given day I’d much rather be working on photography projects. I’m sure anyone out there who is at all into any sort of artistic pursuits can completely understand. Finding the time to juggle responsibilities and making photographs will probably be a challenge the rest of my life.
This image was made on the campus of Reed College here within the city limits of Portland. I’ve long found that college campuses can be a great place to get away with photographing a stealthy nude, especially during the summer when most campuses are largely empty. The structure the model is sitting in was a piece of art sitting behind the studio buildings and someone point a sign on it encouraging people who passed by to touch it and interact with it. So I figured it wouldn’t be disrespectful to photograph a quick figure study with it.
The camera used was a Mamiya C330 loaded up with some expired Fomapan 100 speed black and white film. I’m a little bummed the expired film left some “splotchy” textures on the model’s skin but it isn’t too distracting. In some ways it gives the image a bit of an aged look even though this was photographed not all that long ago.
