I finally had a chance to work with a role of the latest release of Fuji Across film in medium format. Fuji black and white film was for many years my primary film stock of choice and I was majorly bummed out when Fuji seemingly bailed out on the black and white film market some time ago. Well now it seems to be back, now called Fuji Across II and goes for nearly triple the price it used to.
That last little bit is a serious bummer because after only one roll I have to admit I really like it. The latest version of Fuji Across has all the elements I loved about the film in the first place. Nice and soft grain and a very wide exposure latitude that seems very difficult to muck up.
I guess I’ll have to save my pennies and buy a roll every so often. My local brick and mortar photo store is carrying it at nearly $14.00 a roll so at that price I won’t be able to work with it often. But as a treat to myself I’ll be sure to pick up a roll every few months and add it to my usual Ilford and Fomapan stock.
