I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Devi for the second time recently. I always appreciate when I have the opportunity to work with someone who travels into Portland regularly for the second time. Second photoshoots are almost always better than the first. Mainly due to the fact that by the second photoshoot I’ve grown more comfortable with the person I’m working with. I consider that pretty normal for me in just about all aspects of my life. I tend to be a fairly awkward person the first time I meet someone, but by the second I’m much more relaxed and behave far more like myself.
This photograph was made with the Hasselblad 500c/m loaded up with Kodak T-Max 400 speed film. the lighting situation was obviously pretty extreme. This was one of the first days in the Portland area that really felt like spring had arrived and there was a lot of very bright light coming through the windows. In order to keep some semblance of detail in the shadow areas of the film I decided to stand develop in Rodinal at 1:100 for 40 minutes.
I think the balance turned out just about right!
